HSE outlines contingency plans for "Day of Action"


The HSE has been outlining the impact that tomorrow's one day public service strike will have.

Letterkenny General and other hospitals have been contacting their patients by letter, telephone and in some cases SMS text messages to advise them of services and procedures affected by the industrial action.

Appointments are being rescheduled as soon as possible.

Emergency Departments and Ambulance Services will operate a limited service tomorrow, with management anticipating that there will be a 'Christmas Day level' of cover available.

With that in mind , people are being asked not to attend A&E unless absolutely necessary.

All Swine Flu vaccination clinics will also be closed.

A number of nursing areas have been excluded from the action, including intensive care, dialysis, cancer care, maternity, home helps and palliative care.

Voluntary Intellectual Disability Services and Care of the Elderly Services have also been exempted.
