Glenree United 3 St Catherines 2 Sunday 5/9/10
Day one of the new 2010/2011 season saw a plucky Glenree United team take advantage of a home fixture and defeat a youthful Killybegs side three goals to two.
It's been a few seasons since both sides met and things were cagey enough through out the first half and it left the game goalless at the break with Glenree having a few chances going the wrong side of the posts.
The second half saw a different home side and with the upped tempo Damien Coyle saw his half volleyed effort scream into the top corner on forty seven minutes leaving the St Catherines keeper no chance. This prompted St Catherines to rally round and they got two goals in quick succession on fifty and fifty five minutes through Rory Murray and Conor O'Rourke. Not to be dismayed by this Glenree kept the pressure on and their efforts were rewarded when Pat McGroddy was taken down in the box for Damien Coyle to convert on sixty minutes. The game seemed to be heading for a 2-2 result but a hard working mid-field of Daniel McGroddy and Justin Blee had other ideas and the both combined well to see a Danny McGroddy effort reach the back of the net and seal an important three home points for the boys in red!!
A promising team performance form St Catherine's and Damien Coyle, Justin Blee and Craig Speer had a good game for Glenree.
